A top All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, has hailed the decision of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in picking Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the upcoming presidential elections in 2023.
Tinubu who picked the party’s presidential ticket in sensational style after a grueling all-night primary in Abuja recently last week finally laid to rest the contentious issue of who his vice-presidential candidate for next year’s general elections would be.
Solomon, who represented Lagos West in the upper chambers of the National Assembly between 2007 and 2011, commended the astuteness with which Asiwaju chose his deputy, saying it would enhance his chances of becoming Nigeria’s next president comes 2023.
“I had always believed that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would give Nigerians the best and most suitable running mate for the presidential elections following his recent run-away victory at the party primaries held in Abuja,” Solomon, a one-time Mushin Local Government Chairman said.
“I have no doubts whatsoever that Tinubu and his vice-president-to-be possess the unbeatable qualities that make them the number one favourites to clinch the presidency come 2023,” he added.
The former Senator popular known as ‘GOS’ among his supporters, therefore, called on the party hierarchy, Tinubu’s co-contestants in the primaries, and all members across the country to rally around these candidates to ensure that the job of seeing them succeed in the duo of Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo as the next occupants of the Aso Rock Villa becomes a reality.
“Now that the wait for Tinubu’s running mate is over, I’ll enjoin all party loyalists, including the Asiwaju’s co-contestants in the last primaries, party leaders, and all members across the length and breadth of this country to close ranks and ensure that Tinubu and his vice become the next occupants of the Aso Villa after the duo of Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo leave on May 29 next year,” he said.
