CP’s parting shot to personnel, ‘Policing has changed’
The Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ayuba N. Elkanah on 11th August 2022, bids farewell to officers in the state and the Nigeria Police Force in colourful pull-out parade organised by the state command.
During his farewell speech, Elkanah said: “I stand here today to welcome you all to this historic event which symbolises my retirement from the Nigeria Police Force after successful 32 years in service. I wish to further thank Almighty Allah for giving me the life and strength to witness the successful end of my service carrier in the Nigeria Police Force. My unalloyed gratitude goes to our Indefatigable Inspector General of Police, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, IGP Usman Alkali Baba for his confidence and trust in me to be his ambassador in Zamfara State as Commissioner of Police. The professional guidance and support I received from the IGP have made my tenure successful in Zamfara State. May Allah continue to guide and Protect the IGP.”
While thanking the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 10, Sokoto State, AIG Bello Sani Dalijan for his support and encouragement to officers and men of the Command, Elkanah added: “My historical service carrier in the Nigeria Police will not be complete without mentioning Zamfara State. This is because it is only in Zamfara State Command that I served in three different capacities. First as DC CID; Second as DC Operations and above all as Commissioner of Police. During these periods, the successes I achieved would not have been made possible without the support and assistance of our indefatigable Governor, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Bello, Matawallen Maradun, Barden Kasar Hausa, and Shettiman Sokoto. I must appreciate our workaholic Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Senator Hassan Mohammed Nasiha, the SSG, the Chief of Staff, the Head of Service, and all Members of the State Executive Council. For the Speaker Zamfara State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya and all Members of the Federal and State Houses of Assemblies, I appreciate your support towards my success in the State. Therefore, I must thank His Excellency and his Government for this wonderful gesture. Let me use this medium to assure His Excellency that, my relationship with the Zamfara people will not end here, as I will continue to see Zamfara as one of my finest homes where I will be visiting from time to time.”
The outgoing CP further said: “I will not forget our Royal father’s support, contribution, and prayers to me and my officers and men. Your fatherly advice and support had given me the desired knowledge to successfully implement my crime-fighting strategies in Zamfara State. I thank you all and pray to Almighty Allah to reward you abundantly. In the same vein, I must also acknowledge the support of other stakeholders especially the local government chairmen, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Judiciary, NURTW, businessmen, religious and community leaders, and above all the press for wonderful harmonious working relations. For my fellow Heads of security agencies, I thank you so much for the robust synergy and cooperation among all the security personnel serving in the state. I urge you to sustain the spirit of collaboration so that the aspirations of His Excellency to restore lasting peace and security can be achieved to the latter.
“As I said earlier, today marks the end of my carrier as a Police officer, and having retired successfully with honour and dignity, I’m excited and humbled by this privilege, and pray that all of you will one day retire and go back to your respective homes Hale and hearty. In achieving this, you require much sacrifice and commitment. This also includes your ability to learn from past and present experiences and try to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of your duty, and by so doing, you will gain the respect and acceptance of your host communities. In these contemporary periods, Policing has changed, and it is still changing, because it is not about arresting, investigating, or prosecuting alone, but you also have the responsibility to ensure stable democracy for good governance, creating an enabling environment, and providing acceptable basic service delivery for the citizens. I call on you to always see yourselves as officers of a viable law enforcement agency, whose responsibility and mandate are to serve with integrity and without any selfish interest.”
Elkanah also thanked members of his management team; Area commanders, DPOs, and his two Squadron Commanders. He also appreciated the CTU Commander, Officers, Inspectors, and Rank and File.
He added: “I wish you Allah’s guidance and protection. I will also remind you to sustain the already established Working synergy with the Government and good people of Zamfara State and other security agencies. Let me once again thank His Excellency the Executive Governor of Zamfara State for his valuable contributions to the Command and the Nigeria Police in general. Working under you is a great privilege that I will never forget in my life. Please accept my best wishes while I always remain available to give my contributions to the development of Zamfara state.”
