The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba Usman, has charged police personnel in different states to stop surrendering their rifles sheepishly to suspected armed robbers and other hoodlums.
This was stated in a Police Signal sighted by securitynewsalert.com. The IGP in the signal instructed all Commissioners of Police (CPs) to lecture and make the charge part of their lectures to their men.
The charge is a reaction to an exclusive story reported by securitynewsalert.com. The report detailed how armed robbers, posing as X-Squad detectives from the Lagos State Police Command collected at least four rifles from five policemen attached to the Ajangbadi Police Station.
Baba, while charging the CPs to ensure the lectures on the subject matter trickle down to all police formation, said: “Commissioners of Police ensure you lecture your officers and men on the need to be watchful while on anti-crime patrol duty. They are not to sheepishly surrender their arms to anyone under any disguise. The recent ugly incident in Lagos, where men on patrol surrendered their arms to hoodlums must not be replicated anywhere. In the same vein, it is equally observed that some of our men are fond of carrying their arms on motorcycles. This habit is dangerous and must be stopped immediately. Meanwhile, we are urged to sustain the routine visit and vigilance to banks, schools and vulnerable points. This is for strict compliance.”BEWARE All Rights Reserved.
