The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alkali Usman Baba, has ordered a ban on stop and search with firearms.

According to police sources, this order may be connected to the killing of Lawyer Omobonlale Raheem by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Drambi Vandi in Lagos State.

According to a Police Signal sighted by securitynewsalert.com, the message received on 29th of December 2022, at about 10:45 am, from the IGP, banning the conduct of stop and search with arms.

Senior Police officers in different formations in Nigeria were enjoined to ensure the supervision of their personnel and ensure they maintain the latest status quo.

The signal states thus: “Be informed that following message received from control on 29th of December 2022 at about 10:45 am, the IGP has banned the conduct of stop and search with arms with immediate effect. Consequently, therefore, directed to supervise your personnel for strict compliance and treat them as very important.”
