The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa has given commendation awards to nine policemen from Igando Police Station, including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), a Chief Superintendent of Police, (CSP), Ekeinde Ohiomoba, in charge of the division for outstanding performances and gallantry.
Aside from the DPO, others are Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nureni Usman, Inspector Mpi Francis, Inspector Olu Kayode Benson, Inspector Stephen Inu Mama, Owoju David, Inspector Emelem Peter, Inspector Bright Ogbede and Inspector Martins Akwa.
According to Owohunwa, the policemen were commended and awarded in compliance with Force Order.
His words: “In line with our leader’s strategy of recognising our men for professionalism, officers from Igando Division on 21st of May at midnight, the DPO and Area Commander got information about an armed robbery on a property in Igando. The robbers had robbed a car earlier, which they used as a getaway car, and then went to rob people at a beer parlour.
“The DPO with his men responded and arrested four of the suspects, recovered three weapons and two operational vehicles. Also, a total of 20 mobile phones snatched from victims were recovered.
“Within the context of policing, the DPO, Area Commander, and other policemen put their lives at stake, which shows dedication and courage.
“They will be given certificates, which will go with money for their show of excellency. What these officers have demonstrated is the true spirit of the Lagos Command, which is that personnel in Lagos Command are ready to go to any length to keep the state safe.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, who said the restructuring of units and spreading out of tactical squads across the state by Owohunwa had been yielding immense success, added that the CP was watching and monitoring the performances of the different squads.
He also further shed light on the achievements of the Policemen from Igando Police Station.
Hundeyin said: “ It is a case of conspiracy and armed robbery. On the 21st of May at about midnight, a gang of armed robbers, Ugochukwu Onyenuforo, 30, Ramon Ogundele, 32, Yaro Ndudu, 25, and Abiodun Usman, 30, wielding guns and other dangerous weapons were robbing people of their property at a bar in Igando area of Lagos State.
“Upon receipt of information, operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene where the robbers were arrested. Items recovered were three cut-to-size locally made guns, 10 live ammunition, two knives, 21 different makes of phones, two international passports and one wristwatch, four cartier glasses, plyer. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of their gang.”
