Residents of Enugu State are still reeling in shock following the news of a 31 years old man, identified as Augustine Akor, who allegedly raped and strangled his 72 years old granny, Faith Akam for purposes believed to be a money ritual.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said that the suspect was arrested on June 12, 2023, with the assistance of local vigilante members serving in the Igbo-Eze North Division of the command.
He was arrested four days after committing the crime in a bush located at Mpole-Ubere in the community, where he abandoned his granny’s corpse.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had gone missing in the evening of June 8 after she went to engage in her daily farming activities.
The suspect was arrested immediately after the crime by the local vigilante group and reportedly confessed to the act after being subjected to a brutal beating.
The suspect, who is believed to be involved in internet fraud (yahoo yahoo), confessed to the vigilante members the reasons behind his assault on the elderly woman in the forest.
He claimed that in his pursuit of more money through fraudulent activities, he had sought the assistance of an herbalist who prescribed a charm that required him to sleep with an older woman. Consequently, he felt compelled to attack his grandmother while she was in her farm.
