The Ogun State Police Command has arrested and charged nine land grabbers in court.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, a Superintendent of Police, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the arrest and arraignment of the nine suspects, explained that on the 1st of August 2023, the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, was applauded by residents of Odosegolu village in Ijebu Ode for his decisive action in tackling land grabbers.

The image manager said intelligence reports revealed that some hoodlums were fomenting trouble at Odosegolu village, armed with dangerous weapons.

CP Abiodun directed Area Commander Ijebu-Ode, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Omosanyi Adeniyi, to arrest the situation.

Adeniyi then led 71 Police Mobile Force, Anti-Cultism, Anti-Kidnapping, and Patrol team from divisions under Area Command Ijebu-Ode who raced to the troubled village and rounded the nine suspected land grabbers.

The suspects have been identified as Akeem Rabiu, 42, Ayodele Nureni, 49, Wasiu Olamilekan, 32, Abiodun Adeoye, 40,  Samuel Abayomi, 36, Sesan Badejo, 35, Ademola Ajayi, 58, BabaFemi Badejo, 59 and Olabayo Jimoh, 31.

Odutola said: “They are the notorious elements and crooks that have consistently robbed the community above of their lands. These con men have engaged in a series of illegal entries into local lands. These locals do not have the wherewithal to defend themselves.

“The Community sighed a breath of relief as soon as crack policemen apprehended the nine suspects.  These suspects were arrested with dangerous weapons and charms and when searched, hard drugs were found in their possession.

“It is apparent that none of them is below 18 years which implies their acts are known to them. They have all confessed to land grabbing, as well as defrauding people of their hard-earned money.

“Recall that on the 5th of July 2023, the CP in his maiden speech emphasised that he would quell persons involved in the illegal land seizure. Today, he has checked Odosegolu land grabbers and used them as scapegoats, an action that will send strong signals to other villages in Ogun State.

“The Ogun State Police Commissioner of Police is well equipped to fix this recurring issue of land grabber, as stated in his maiden speech.”
