An American returnee identified as Orisunmibare Owoyemi has expressed shock on discovering that his security guard and cables valued at over N5million have disappeared from his construction site at House 1 Orisunmibare Street Greenland CDA Sabo Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, while confirming the incident, added Owoyemi complained of breaking and entry into his construction to steal the cables.
This is even as Odutola stated that the security guard had been declared wanted, stressing that information about the whereabouts of the guard would be welcome from any anonymous sources.
According to Odutola, the complaint about the theft of the cables and the disappearance of the guard was brought to the attention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ilupeju Division, a Chief Superintendent of Police, Mustapha Opaywoye. The complaint was lodged on the 8th of August 2023.
Owoyemi explained to the Police that when he visited his house under construction situated at House 1 Orisunmibare Street Greenland CDA Sabo Abeokuta, Ogun State, he found out to his dismay, that the security guard employed to secure the house was nowhere to be found.
Odutola said: “On getting further into the building he was terrified to discover his electrical cables were vandalised by unknown persons and had been stolen. As if that was not enough, the car battery was also stolen. The estimated value of the stolen items was valued at about N5 million.
“The America-based returnee has fingered his fleeing security guard who at the time he visited his uncompleted building, situated in a remote location abandoned his duty post without traces.
“The Ogun State Police Command is calling for anonymous information from volunteers, that will aid the police in apprehending the fleeing suspect.”
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha advised people who have buildings in remote locations, to bring sure to awareness of the nearest station so that the Police will know where such construction site is.
He said that it was vital for the workers and security guards to be properly profiled by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the divisions closest to the site. This, said the CP, will prevent such occurrences.
The number one policeman in the state also mentioned that he has been briefed and has put appropriate measures in place to track and arrest the alleged fleeing guard, stressing that there was no cause for an alarm.
