Group rescues pregnant woman, friend from long prison term

-

The Headfort Foundation has once again stepped into the fray and assisted two women, Fausat and Bola, who would certainly have faced long prison terms.

Headfort Foundation on its XSpace said Fausat was heavily pregnant when she was arrested by the Police on the 2nd of October 2023, alongside her friend Bola for stealing a radio set worth N20,000.

On October 3, 2023, the two women were brought before the court and charged with two counts charge of conspiracy to steal and stealing.

Headfort Foundation stated: “On December 7, 2023,  our lawyer, Nafeesat, stationed at our mobile office in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was in court for a different case when Fausat and Bola’s case was called and they had no legal representation.

“Our lawyer took a keen interest in the case, particularly due to Fausat’s pregnancy. Although during arraignment, Fausat admitted to stealing the radio set, Bola claimed to not know of it and stated that they only lived together.

“Fausat further states that she took the radio set because her boss who is the complainant has refused to pay her salary for three months.

“Our lawyer did their trial and represented both Fausat and Bola. The court delivered its judgment on December 18, 2023, Fausat was sentenced to one-month imprisonment for stealing a radio set, starting from the day of arraignment.

“She was however allowed to go home because she had already spent over one month in prison. On the other hand, Bola was discharged and acquitted after spending two months in prison. The court established that she had nothing to do with the crime, she was only Fausat’s friend and roommate.”
