The Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspects for armed robbery and murder, says the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police, Chidi Nwabuzor.
The image manager identified the two suspects as Daniel Amuzoga, 33 years from Ukwuani in Delta State, and Christopher Omiose, 30 years from Esan land in Edo State, adding that they were assisting the Police in the investigation.
Nwabuzor said that on Thursday the 8th of February 2024 at about 6:am, the Divisional Police Officer of Okhuaihe Division, Benin City received a complaint from one Nwoye Ezeako of Umunya Village in Oyi Local Government Area Of Anambra State.
Ezeako reported that on 8th January 2024 at about 5:30 am, his truck driver and motor conductor were attacked along Benin-Agbor Road by Okhuaihe Bridge, Benin City by four armed robbers who were with guns and cutlass while they were transporting 45,000 litres of premium motor spirit (petrol) from Lagos State heading to Onitsha, Anambra State with his Mark Truck Registration No. ENU 376 XU.
Nwabuzor said: “The armed robbers who mounted the Expressway robbed the complainant, his truck driver, and the motor conductor of their belongings and shot the truck driver in his chest.
“They also wounded the motor conductor on his foreheads with a cutlass and shot the complainant on his hand. On the arrival of the DPO and his men at the scene, they immediately rushed the victims to Aigbogun Hospital for treatment and the medical doctor confirmed dead the truck driver, his motor conductor and their bodies were deposited at the hospital mortuary while the complainant recovered as he responded to treatment.
“The DPO Ukhuaihe Division, in collaboration with the DPO Egba Division, Benin City, using technical intelligence, arrested two of the male suspects at Ehor Edo State when selling petrol to people from the robbed Mack Truck.
