-

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, ahead of the planned nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest, engaged security agencies in a crucial meeting and also appealed to the leaders of the planned protest to provide possible routes to ensure their safety and security.

The Police spokesman, Nafiu Abubakar, in a press statement, said that Sani met with heads of other security agencies in the state and had an interactive session with traditional, religious leaders, youths, National Orientation Agency, PCRC, Miyatti Allah, NURTW, NARTO, Okada Riders, Kebbi Central Market Association and other critical stakeholders at the State Headquarters, Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi, ahead of the planned nationwide protests.

The CP informed the gathering that the Kebbi State Police Command deemed it necessary to invite the stakeholders with a view to brainstorming and proffering laudable solutions on how to prevent the breakdown of law and order in the state.

The CP added that Nigerians have the constitutional right to embark on a peaceful protest for the best reason known to them, but while exercising their rights, destruction or looting of critical infrastructures will not be tolerated.

Abubakar said: “In their separate responses, the stakeholders affirmed their commitment to peace and distanced themselves from the planned protests, noting the motives of some miscreant groups calling for violent demonstrations.

“The Combined heads of security agencies in the state call on all groups planning for the peaceful demonstrations to provide details of the following information, proposed routes and assembly points, expected duration of the protest, names and contact details of leaders, measures to prevent hijacking by criminal elements.

“This will enable them to provide adequate security during and after the protest, design specific measures to avoid conflict, establish clear communication with protest leaders, and minimize the risks of violence and other criminal activities.

“The protesters were also urged to work closely with the police and other security agencies, abide by the law, and adhere to international standards for peaceful assembly to ensure their rights are exercised safely and successfully without any hitch.”
