Husband dies, wife rescued after inhaling generator fume in apartment

-

Police operatives attached to Owode Egba Division, Ogun State Police Command, said they rescued a woman, Mrs Oyin Falodun, while her husband, Mr Nwachukwu Ikechukwu, was confirmed dead after both inhaled generator fume.

A police report maintained that Ikechukwu’s death was caused by carbon monoxide from their generator set.

The incident was reported at the police station on the 20th of September 2024, at about 11:am.

The report was lodged by the chairman of the Shogoye Community, Owode Egba, Mr Showunmi Sunday, where the incident occurred.

The police report states: “The husband and wife were both living in their residence. It was one Oladayo Olasubomi of the same community who visited the residence of the couple, to give  Oyin N1000 her daily contribution, but on getting to the residence of the couple, she found the lifeless body of Nwachuku Ikechukwu on the floor in their room.

“His wife, Oyin was also found lying beside him unconscious, without any mark of violence on both of their bodies. Oladayo, who found the couple, raised the alarm.

“Members of the community rushed down to the residence of the victims. Upon the receipt of the report from the community members, police detectives were deployed and they immediately swung into action.

“The scene of the crime was visited and the body of Nwachukwu Ikechukwu was properly checked and there was no mark of violence detected on his body.

“It was later confirmed through the wife at the hospital that both were affected by the carbon monoxide from their generating plant, which was put on in their sitting room.

“This was reported by the wife after she regained consciousness. She narrated that at about 10:pm, on that fateful day of the 19th of September 2024,  she asked her husband whether she could turn off the generator, which they were using to power the fans in their bedroom, but her husband said no. They both later slept off.

“She said that the generator must have caused the tragedy that befell them. The generating set went off after the fuel had finished in its tank. She later said that both of them were off their bed, and she later discovered that her husband struggled out of their matrimonial bed and fell on the floor of their room while facing down.

“She became unconscious. She was taken to the nearest hospital. She is presently receiving treatment at Orè Ofe Hospital Owode Egba.

“The corpse of her husband had been removed and deposited at the Owode General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.”
