…mothers in community place curses

Protest rocks Amaoba Community in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, following the death of a youth leader identified as Mr Boniface Nwankwo.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Nwankwo went to a meeting and would later return home to vomit blood, slumped and died.

He was also said to have only recently been elected as a youth leader.

He died today Monday 23rd of December 2024, at about 2: am.

Angry mothers who joined in the protest, went to strategic junctions in the community, placing and raining curses on anyone who might be responsible for the death of the young man.

Many alleged that Nwankwo must have been poisoned. The belief that he was poisoned,  coupled with the fact that he was well-liked, led to the protest.

It was further alleged that a particular phone number called him countless times on Sunday, asking him to come for a meeting.

He was alleged to have died moments after returning from the meeting.

Securitynewsalert.com also learned that after his death, many people repeatedly tried the phone number that called to invite him for a meeting, but the owner did not pick up any of the calls.

The owner of the phone number would later switch off his phone.

Nwankwo is married and has four children, with the youngest just two years old.

Members of the community have urged that everything should be done within the ambit of the law to find out what could have caused his death.

Also, the community has decided to conceal a special social activity in the village known as ‘Otan Ekpe Night’ to honour and mourn him.

However, some people have taken to Facebook to mourn him and express their shock.

A Facebook user, Gideon Onyi, said: “My heart is filled with tears and pains, who did this thing to you, who did you offend, God why my lovely uncle Boniface? May God Almighty fight for you, those who did this will never have rest, they will know no peace. Happiness will be far away from them; they will seek help but will never find it.”

Another user, Mazi Emeka Nwachinemere Ijiomah, said: “This is a sad Monday, not just for me but for the entire Amaoba community.  Just last Thursday, Bonny sent me a VM that Ikputu youths want to honour me this December, on Friday he helped us to get a grill to use at home only to get the news this Monday morning that he is dead. I still don’t get it. I am yet to understand it. Why should this be? A young man who is still enjoying life. He was just elected the Ikputu youth president. This is sad.”
