Ogun Police: Drama As Inspector Challenges ASP Over Evidence Gathering, Handling Of Cases

-

A suspect, Wasilat Afeez, has called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Olukayode Egbetokun, to come to her rescue as an Investigating Police Officer (IPO) at Sango Ota Police Station, identified as Inspector Odunayo Aremu, has vowed to send her to prison over a civil matter.

Wasilat said that inspector Odunayo Aremu has threatened to jail her because she allegedly refused to part with N100,000, which she requested from her for bail.

Narrating her ordeal to our Correspondent, Wasilat said Inspector Odunayo Aremu had allegedly secured a fake hospital report, which she allegedly submitted to a Magistrate court in Ogun State as evidence to convict her.

According to her, Inspector Odunayo Aremu demanded N100,000 as a condition for bail over a case of two fighting.

She narrated that the police division in Sango, Ota, detained her for four days because of her inability to produce N100,000 for bail.

The housewife who lived in the Babaonigba community in the Ntabo area of Ijoko at Sango, Ogun State, revealed that she was detained over a case of misunderstanding between her and her neighbour, Rasheed Adeshinya.

Her neighbour claimed that she sustained injury during the fight and procured a fake hospital bill from a non-registered private hospital in the Ijoko area of Sango in the state.

She narrated that while in the cell, a woman Inspector called Odunayo Aremu and also the IPO  approached her for bail of  N50,000 and the hospital bill of N50,000 before she could be released.

The woman further alleged that the IPO was bent on collecting the money because the person she fought with was her best friend.

Wasilat narrated: “When my brother contacted the police authority on the 4th day, I was granted bail for free without paying any money. This annoyed the Inspector, and she charged the matter to Magistrate Court Ota, saying since I cannot pay the money and my brother has used his power, I will end up jailed.”

An argument arose between the Inspector and team leader, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Victor, who kicked against the hospital bill, declaring it as a fake. The ASP maintained that there was no evidence of medical attention and treatment in the paper supposed to be given to her complainant by the hospital.

Meanwhile, Inspector Odunayo disagreed with her superior and proceeded to the Magistrate Court in Ota, where she lured the police prosecutor to remand her in prison.

Wasilat has, however, been remanded until her bail condition is met, while the case has been adjourned till March 4, 2025.
