Lagos Police Celebrates Maiden Nigeria Police Week

The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared the first week of April every year as Police Week and the 7th of April as National Police Day.

The Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin said that this day is set aside to honour the Nigeria Police Force and recognize their contributions to the internal security of our dear Nation, Nigeria, and the maintenance of law and order throughout the country.

He further explained: “The Lagos State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Olohundare Jimoh FMNIMC and CMC, FCAI, Anipr, Arpa is pleased to announce the celebration of the maiden National Police Week, commencing from April 3 to 7, 2025.

“This year’s theme, Inclusive Policing: A Panacea to Improved Security and Economic Growth in Lagos State, highlights the importance of collaborative efforts among security stakeholders and synergy between sister security services to ensure the safety of lives and property in Lagos State.

“The National Police Week is a pivotal moment for the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen ties with the communities they serve. This week-long celebration honours the dedication and commitment of our officers, while also fostering constructive dialogue with citizens and showcasing the transformative work of the Nigeria Police Force.”

He stated that in compliance with the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun directives, the Lagos State Police Command has lined up memorable and exciting activities to engage with the community and promote community policing and other policing strategies and initiatives of the IGP in line with International Best Practices in ensuring safety and security of all Lagosians and visitors throughout the length and breadth of Lagos State.

These, said Hundeyin, include, “Health and Wellness (Medical Outreach) on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 0800 hours at the Computer Village, Ikeja. We are offering free medical check-ups, wellness workshops, and mental health awareness programs.

“Clean Up Exercise on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 0900 hours. Officers of the Command will be visiting major parks, bus stops, and markets across the 14 Area Commands in the  State for sanitation and clean-up exercises.

“Community Outreach Program (Stakeholders Engagement) On Friday, April 4, the Lagos State Police Command will be hosting a town hall meeting and interactive session at the Police Officers Mess, Ikeja, at 9:am with the members of the public to address safety concerns and community needs.

“Walkathon on April 5, taking off from the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, at 6 a.m., through major and strategic locations in the metropolis. This is to promote camaraderie, celebrate diversity, and enhance confidence building between the Police and the people we serve.”

The image manager said that in furtherance to the above, the Lagos State Police Command gladly invites and implores the residents of Lagos State and all security stakeholders to participate in the planned week-long activities and passionately appeals for their continuous collaboration as the Command moves toward guaranteeing a safer and more secure Lagos State for everyone.
