IGP Receives Ambassador From African Union, Gets Commendation For Notable Feats

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, received a courtesy visit from Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace & Security of the African Union Commission, today April 4th 2025, at the IGP’s Smart Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Samuel Victor Makwe, a representative from the Embassy of Nigeria in Addis Ababa, and other African Union (AU) officials.

 

During the visit, Ambassador Adeoye expressed his appreciation for the distinguished service rendered by the Nigeria Police Force, particularly highlighting their exemplary professionalism and competence in peacekeeping operations in Somalia.

He further stated that the AU is grateful for the contributions of the Force, which plays a vital role in fostering peace and security in the region and envisions a better society through the continued efforts of the NPF.

The Ambassador also emphasized the importance of collaboration in combating transnational crimes, urging the NPF to enhance both local and international mechanisms for effective crime fighting.

 

In response, the IGP expressed gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to working closely with the African Union. The Force is proud of the exceptional performance of the AU and remains dedicated to supporting its mission.

 

The IGP also acknowledged the challenges faced by police officers in Somalia and assured the Ambassador that the NPF is taking proactive steps to address these issues.

 

This meeting underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing security challenges and highlights the ongoing commitment of the Force to peacekeeping and crime prevention. Both the IGP and the Ambassador expressed optimism for future collaborations that will enhance security and stability across the continent, as the Force remains dedicated towards this goal.
