Nigerian Army Orders Probe into Viral Video on Troops’ Rations

-

The Nigerian Army has expressed deep concern over a viral video circulating on social media and picked up by various mainstream platforms. The footage appears to show personnel displaying food items allegedly sent by the higher command, raising questions about the quality and quantity of the provisions.

While the authenticity and context of the video are yet to be fully determined, the Army assures the public and its personnel that the issue is receiving the attention it deserves. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the footage. In line with his commitment to transparency and accountability, the findings will be shared publicly upon conclusion.

The COAS reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to the welfare of troops, as underscored by his command philosophy: “To Consolidate the Transformation of the Nigerian Army Towards Bequeathing a Well-motivated and Combat-Ready Force that can Effectively Discharge its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.”

This philosophy is further reinforced by the recently launched “Soldier First” initiative, which places the well-being, dignity, and operational readiness of soldiers—and the welfare of their families—at the heart of all Army policies and actions.

The Nigerian Army encourages personnel to make use of official channels to voice concerns, especially those relating to welfare. Expressing grievances via unauthorised platforms, particularly on sensitive operational matters, is discouraged and viewed as a breach of military ethics and discipline.

The Army remains steadfast in its commitment to leadership accountability, institutional integrity, and the continuous enhancement of troops’ welfare. The effectiveness and well-being of Nigerian soldiers remain central to the Army’s ongoing transformation and operational success.
