Nigerian Army Neutralizes Terrorists, Dismantles Gunrunning Syndicate, and Recovers Weapons in Coordinated Operations

-

Through a series of precision-led and intelligence-driven operations across multiple theatres, the Nigerian Army has made significant strides in its ongoing campaign against terrorism and other emerging security threats.

These operations resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists, the arrest of 11 suspects, the voluntary surrender of two terrorist family members, and the recovery of weapons, logistics supplies, and rustled livestock.

In Sokoto State, troops of 8 Division Garrison, deployed at Forward Operating Bases in Tsamaye and Mai Lalle (Sabon Birni LGA), engaged armed elements in a fierce firefight. They neutralised two terrorists, forcing others to retreat. Three AK-47 rifles and a motorcycle were recovered, further weakening the insurgents’ operational capacity.

In Borno State, sustained pressure continues to deliver results. Troops of 202 Battalion in Bama received the voluntary surrender of two relatives of known terrorists—an adult female and a child—who escaped from the CHURCHUR axis.

In Yobe State troops of 120 Task Force Battalion stationed in Katarko, Gujba LGA, apprehended a suspected terrorist attempting to breach a secured perimeter. The individual, claiming Nigerien nationality, could not communicate in any recognised Nigerian language, triggering suspicions of cross-border involvement and prompting further investigation.

In Kebbi State, troops of 1 Battalion Rear acted on credible intelligence to intercept a cattle rustling attempt in Sauna Village, Argungu LGA. The rustlers fled on contact, abandoning 251 cows, which were returned to their rightful owners—bolstering public confidence in military operations.

In Ondo State, troops of 323 Artillery Regiment operating in Igbara-Oke, Ifedore LGA, arrested two suspected gunrunners attempting to purchase firearms from a local supplier. Initial findings uncovered a disturbing link to an inmate at Kirikiri Correctional Facility in Lagos, allegedly coordinating the transaction to support criminal activities in Zamfara State.

In Delta State, security forces discovered a tricycle concealed with approximately 200 litres of suspected illegally refined diesel along the Jeddo–Omadino axis in Warri South LGA. Separately, troops of 63 Brigade Garrison raided a suspected IPOB/ESN hideout in Okpanam (Oshimili North LGA), arresting seven suspects and recovering a motorcycle, four mobile phones, and other items.

These successful operations reflect the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to national security and public peace. The momentum of these efforts remains high, with continued strategic and professional responses to evolving threats across the country.
