Police Recover Rustled Cows in Kebbi, Arrest Suspect Linked to Cross-Border Bandits

-

The Kebbi State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 42-year-old man, Salihu Umar, from the Dogon Dutse area of the Niger Republic, for allegedly owning ten rustled cows.

The suspect was apprehended on August 31, 2025, around 5:30 p.m. at Bachaka cattle market. Police said the cows were traced to one Usman Aliyu of Zogirma town, Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, whose herd of 68 cows had been stolen on August 20 by suspected Lakurawa bandits who crossed into the Niger Republic.

Confirming the development, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the Divisional Police Officer of Bachaka and his men for the “bravery and intelligence-led policing” that led to the recovery. He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi for discreet investigation, to apprehend other fleeing suspects and recover more stolen cattle.

The commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining its onslaught against violent crimes in the state. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies to aid their operations.
