A combined team of security operatives in Anambra State successfully recovered a snatched Toyota Highlander SUV and apprehended a female accomplice following a reported case of armed robbery and kidnapping.
The operation, carried out by operatives from the Anambra State Police Command, 3-3 Police Station, and the Agunechemba Security, Nkwelle-Ezunaka Unit, led to the arrest of Okonkwo Onyinye, a 23-year-old woman, in the early hours of October 27, 2025.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim was attacked at the Nkwelle GRA Gate after being double-crossed by five armed men driving a Toyota Corolla. The assailants forcibly placed the victim in the boot of his own vehicle and drove him to a bush in Umuoji Town.
The criminals then dispossessed the victim of his phone and allegedly transferred a staggering sum of ₦24,000,000 (Twenty-Four Million Naira) from his account before abandoning him and escaping with his vehicle.
Acting swiftly on a report, the Joint Security Team utilised technologically driven intelligence to track the suspects’ movement from Nawfia to Ogidi.
In Ogidi, the armed hoodlums reportedly engaged the security operatives in a brief but sporadic gunfire exchange before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing the scene. The white Toyota Highlander SUV with registration number RBC 649 CN was successfully recovered.
Okonkwo Onyinye was subsequently arrested at the scene. She is currently in police custody and is reportedly providing credible information to detectives that is expected to lead to the arrest of the remaining gang members.
The Anambra State Police Command noted that it has intensified patrols across the state ahead of the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025. Further developments regarding the case are expected to be communicated soon.
