Anambra Election Security Beefed Up: Police Deploy Advanced Tactical Teams, Helicopters, and Drones

-

The Anambra State Police Command has significantly escalated its security measures ahead of the forthcoming Governorship Election, announcing the arrival of Force Headquarters Advance Tactical Teams and the deployment of advanced aerial surveillance technology.

The deployment, sanctioned by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, aims to solidify the state’s security framework and ensure a seamless, violence-free election process. This move is part of the Force’s strategic plan to bolster local formations with additional manpower and technical support, including helicopters and drones for aerial monitoring.

Receiving the tactical teams in Awka, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Ikioye Orutugu fwc minps PhD, extended gratitude to the IGP for his sustained commitment to the safety of lives and property in Anambra State.

“The aerial surveillance will complement ongoing land patrols by tactical units, intelligence operatives, and police special squads strategically deployed across all 21 Local Government Areas of the State,” CP Orutugu stated.

He stressed that the combined effort would substantially enhance visibility policing, intelligence-driven operations, and rapid response to any emerging threats.

The CP highlighted the critical role of the new technology. The deployment of helicopters and surveillance drones will facilitate real-time monitoring of key locations, border communities, and flash points. Simultaneously, ground teams will maintain robust patrols and checkpoint operations across all local government areas.

CP Orutugu reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to collaborate with sister security agencies and other stakeholders to maintain peace and order as the election approaches.

The Police Command urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of the Police by promptly reporting any suspicious persons or movements.

The public is encouraged to contact the nearest Police Station or utilise the Command’s emergency hotlines: 07039194332 or 08039334002.

The Anambra State Police Command concluded by assuring citizens of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a secure environment where law-abiding individuals can carry out their lawful duties without fear or intimidation.
