-

On November 7, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a suspicious ash-colored Sharon Ford vehicle with registration number ABJ-581-HL was spotted wandering around Jega town, Kebbi State. The vehicle was later parked near the Jega roundabout.

Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jega mobilised his team, trailed the vehicle, and successfully arrested a 52-year-old man identified as Abdullahi Muhammad from the Durbawa area in Sokoto State.

Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered several items suspected to be tools used for vandalism. These included digging bars, a hacksaw, scissors, a hammer, a cutter, a solar panel, spanners, battery head covers, a helmet and shirt, a wire cutter, screwdrivers, and multiple touch lights.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to specialising in the vandalisation of batteries used in network service installations across Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, and Nasarawa States. He also named three accomplices, Nasiru Galashi, Yahuza, and Aminu, who are currently at large.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation aimed at apprehending the remaining suspects and ensuring their prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the DPO for his effective use of community and intelligence-driven policing strategies. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating banditry, kidnapping, and other serious crimes in the state.

CP Sani also praised the residents of Jega for their vigilance and timely reporting, which played a crucial role in the successful operation. He urged the public to remain alert and continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities for swift intervention.
