The Enugu State Police Command has uncovered a false allegation of defilement made by a woman against her husband, after a thorough investigation revealed the claims to be fabricated.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command received a complaint on October 25, 2025, from one Okonkwo Chisom, aged 29, who reported at the Emene Police Division that her husband, Okonkwo Ozioma, had allegedly been defiling their two daughters, aged five and three, and had threatened to kill her if she revealed it.
However, following the suspect’s arrest and detailed investigation by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), the allegations were found to be false and misleading.
Police findings showed that the periods in 2024 and 2025 when Chisom claimed the offences occurred were the same times she had travelled alone with the children to their hometown in Imo State. Investigators also discovered that the couple’s seven-year-old son, in two separate voluntary statements, exonerated his father and revealed that their mother had coached him and his sisters to falsely accuse their father, a confession corroborated by video evidence.
The statement further noted that Chisom attempted to withdraw the case and halt the investigation after realising that the truth was being uncovered.
Consequently, the police established that Chisom Okonkwo had defamed her husband and provided false information to law enforcement. She was subsequently arraigned before an Enugu State Magistrate Court on a two-count charge of defamation and giving false information. She was granted bail, and the matter was adjourned for further hearing.
Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the detectives of the State Intelligence Department for their professionalism and impartial handling of the case. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to fairness, justice, and professionalism in all investigations, warning that any individual found to make false or malicious allegations would face prosecution in line with the law.
