Man Recalls Family’s Tragic Losses as Nnamdi Kanu is Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

-

A Facebook user, Chichi Eriobu, has shared a deeply emotional account reacting to the life imprisonment sentence handed down to Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

In the post, Eriobu criticised those describing the judgment as harsh, insisting that many families in the South-East have suffered severe consequences linked to IPOB-related violence.

In the lengthy message, Eriobu said his family had been directly affected. He alleged that IPOB members killed his younger brother in Abatete in 2022 and circulated a video of the attack online.

According to him, the trauma contributed to his mother’s deteriorating health, leading to her death the following year.

Eriobu also lamented the impact of Monday sit-at-home orders across the region, saying shop owners were attacked for opening their businesses. He added that students, including his own son, missed classes due to fears of violence, forcing parents to withdraw their children from school.

He faulted those expressing sympathy over Kanu’s sentencing, arguing that they may not understand the level of pain experienced by affected families. Eriobu described the suffering as widespread, saying many homes in Anambra and other states had lost loved ones.

Concluding his post, he warned people to be wary of those who believe the judgment was excessive, accusing them of lacking empathy for victims of violence in the South-East.

The Facebook post has since generated reactions online, with supporters and critics expressing differing views sharply.
