How Intelligence-Led Raid Dismantles Armed Robbery Syndicate, Police Arrest Suspects, Recover Firearms

-

The Delta State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of suspected armed robbers and drug dealers, as well as the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and illicit drugs during separate intelligence-led operations in the state.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Command acted on credible intelligence on December 28, 2025, to dismantle an armed robbery syndicate operating in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Edafe disclosed that officers of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, carried out a coordinated raid on a criminal hideout located in the Otorwhodo area of Ughelli North LGA. During the operation, one suspect, identified as Moses Tejiri, a 24-year-old male native and resident of the area, was arrested, while other members of the gang escaped by scaling surrounding fences.

“A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one long Dane gun, ten rounds of live cartridges, two locally fabricated Beretta pistols, and eleven rounds of live ammunition,” Edafe said.

He added that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect made useful confessional statements, admitting his involvement in several armed robbery incidents around Ekredjebor, Olu Avenue, Winners Road, and other parts of the Ughelli metropolis.

In a related development, the Police Command also arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in Okpanam, near Asaba.

SP Edafe said that following intensified surveillance by the State Intelligence Department (SID) on December 29, 2025, operatives raided a hotel located at Victoria Junction, Okpanam Road, where one Isu Emmanuel, who claimed to be a nurse at Guard Health Pharmacy, Okpanam, was apprehended.

“The suspect was reputed for the indiscriminate sale and distribution of controlled drugs to members of the public without doctors’ prescriptions,” the police spokesman stated.

Items recovered during the operation included 28 sachets of tramadol, 16 sachets of Swindol (100mm), three bottles of Barcadine containing codeine syrup, and other prohibited drugs. The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing.

The Delta State Police Command reassured residents that intelligence-driven patrols, targeted raids, and proactive crime-prevention strategies remain firmly in place to deny criminal elements any haven in the state.

Edafe urged members of the public to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to enhance collective efforts at keeping Delta State safe.
