AIG Disu Pays Tribute to Late Inspector Bimbo,’ Hails Her as ‘Iron Lady’ of Nigerian Policing

-

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Tunji Disu has paid a glowing tribute to late Inspector Aderibigbe Abimbola, fondly called “Bimbo,” describing her as a fearless detective and an exceptional officer whose contributions significantly impacted police operations in Ondo and Oyo states.

In a heartfelt tribute, Disu recounted his professional relationship with the late inspector, noting that he first encountered her while reorganising the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Ondo State. He described the assignment as challenging, given the squad’s mandate to tackle violent crimes and hardened criminals.

“Then came Bimbo. She was a natural detective. You did not have to teach her how to see what others missed. You could give Bimbo a task and go and rest because you knew in your soul that the job would be done well,” Disu said.

He praised her sharp instincts and dedication to justice, adding that she demonstrated uncommon courage in confronting dangerous criminals. According to him, Inspector Abimbola earned the nickname “Iron Lady” through her unwavering commitment and bravery in the line of duty.

“She was never afraid. She did not care how big or dangerous a criminal was. To her, the bigger they came, the bigger they fell. Where hardened men would hesitate, she stepped forward,” he said.

Disu also highlighted her personality beyond her professional achievements, describing her as warm and compassionate despite the demands of her job.

“This fearless force of nature had the most wonderful smile for everyone. She could walk out of an operation that would give most people nightmares and greet you with a warmth that made you forget the darkness she had just faced,” he added.

The AIG further noted that Inspector Abimbola was the only female member of the team at the time but never sought preferential treatment. He said she worked tirelessly across various units, travelling across states and enduring harsh field conditions alongside her male colleagues.

“She slept in cramped cars and on hard wooden benches. She stayed out in the field for days at a time, side by side with the men. She matched them stride for stride, and often she was the one leading the way,” Disu said.

He credited her with playing a major role in the successes recorded during his tenure in Ondo State, describing her as a silent but powerful force behind many operations.

Recounting a high-profile kidnapping case in Oyo State after his transfer, Disu said Inspector Abimbola once again demonstrated her exceptional investigative skills by helping resolve the case within 24 hours.

“Where everyone else saw a wall, Bimbo found a door,” he stated.

Lamenting her death, Disu described her passing as a significant loss to the Nigeria Police Force, noting that she exemplified professionalism and sacrifice in service to the nation.

“She was the kind of detective people think only exists in movies. But she was real. She gave up her comfort and her rest so that others could be safer in their homes,” he said.

He added that beyond her policing achievements, Inspector Abimbola paved the way for more women in law enforcement, proving that dedication and courage know no gender.

Disu concluded by honouring her legacy, stating that her contributions to policing and public safety would continue to inspire officers across the country.
