The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has been honoured with the African Boy Child Development Award in recognition of his leadership in promoting integrity and youth empowerment.
The award was presented on Friday, March 14, 2026, at the maiden edition of the Africa Culture Fashion Show and Awards held at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja.
According to the organisers, Olukoyede was recognised for his “steadfast leadership in promoting integrity, protecting young people from crime, and advancing initiatives aimed at empowering the African boy child.”
Olukoyede, who was represented at the event by the Head of the EFCC’s Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE II) Aisha Mohammed, expressed appreciation for the honour and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting ethical values among young people.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the EFCC Chairman, Mohammed described the event as a celebration of Africa’s cultural heritage and creativity.
“I am honoured to give a goodwill message at this inaugural African Cultural Heritage Fashion Show and Awards. This event is a testament to Africa’s cultural diversity and the creativity of our people,” he said.
Olukoyede noted that Nigeria’s cultural diversity remains one of its greatest strengths.
“Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups with cultures marked by distinct traditions in food, music, fashion and festivals,” he said.
He also acknowledged the important role of the fashion industry in driving economic growth across the continent, but warned about challenges facing the sector, including counterfeiting, piracy and financial crimes.
“As we celebrate our heritage, let us also acknowledge the challenges facing our industry, including counterfeiting, piracy and money laundering,” he said.
The EFCC Chairman assured stakeholders that the Commission remains committed to promoting transparency and tackling corruption in all sectors of the economy.
“The EFCC is committed to fighting corruption and promoting transparency. We encourage all stakeholders to work with us to build a prosperous Africa where our cultural heritage drives growth and development,” he said.
Commending the organisers of the event, Olukoyede said initiatives that promote African creativity and unity are vital to the continent’s development.
“I applaud the organisers for showcasing African talent, promoting cultural diversity and fostering unity. May this event inspire young designers and entrepreneurs to innovate and excel,” he added.
He also encouraged young people, particularly the African boy child, to embrace integrity and positive values.
“To the African boy child, the EFCC believes in you and your potential to shape the future of our continent. Embrace integrity, reject corruption and let your values guide you,” he said.
Olukoyede further urged young people to remain focused and surround themselves with positive influences.
“Stay focused, be curious and dream big. Surround yourself with positive influences and never be afraid to speak up for what is right,” he said.
