Anambra CP Orders Detention of Six Officers Over Viral Misconduct Video

-

The Anambra State Police Command has taken decisive action following a viral video alleging unprofessional conduct by its personnel in the commercial hub of Onitsha.

Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu has officially ordered the immediate detention of six officers pending the conclusion of an internal investigation.

The move comes as the Nigerian Police Force faces renewed scrutiny over officer-citizen interactions.

According to Command Spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the detained personnel include two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and four Inspectors.

#Securitynewsalert.com, in a statement released to the press, CP Orutugu emphasised that the Command’s response to the allegations would be “holistic and comprehensive,” leaving no stone unturned in the quest for accountability.

“The Command will not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct,” CP Orutugu reiterated. “Appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure justice is served.”

The investigation has already reached the upper echelons of the local unit involved. Senior officers linked to the incident have been served official queries, while the rank-and-file officers have provided statements under caution.

The probe is also extending beyond the police force. Authorities are currently tracking a Point of Sale (POS) operator in Onitsha, suspected of conspiring with the officers during the alleged incident. To build a watertight case, the Command is calling on the complainant to help with the process.

“Through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okpoko, the Command invites and awaits the victim involved in the complaint to come forward,” SP Ikenga stated. “Providing additional testimony is crucial to aid the investigation and guide further disciplinary action.”

The detention in Anambra coincides with a flurry of activity across other state commands. In Akwa Ibom, police successfully raided an illicit arms fabrication den, arresting suspects and recovering a toy pistol used in separate criminal activities. Meanwhile, in Osun State, the NPF reaffirmed its commitment to joint transparency and the rule of law following a recent shooting incident.

The Anambra State Police Command has assured the public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves and that further developments will be communicated transparently. #Securitynewsalert.com
