IGP Disu Leads Nationwide Walkathon to Mark 2026 National Police Day, Bolster Community Relations

-

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, led officers and citizens on a walkathon through the streets of the nation’s capital today to mark the 2026 National Police Day.

The march, which commenced at the Force Headquarters and concluded at the Unity Fountain, served as the flagship event for a nationwide celebration themed “Together We Walk, Together We Secure.”

The initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Force to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the public. By marching alongside civilians, the IGP emphasised that security is a collective responsibility rather than a solitary task for the police. The Force stated in an official communique that the event is specifically designed to enhance the physical readiness of personnel while fostering a deeper sense of community partnership.

While the IGP led the Abuja leg of the march, identical walkathons were replicated across all State Commands and Formations nationwide to ensure a unified celebration. This massive turnout included not only police personnel but also members of the public and civil society groups, all moving in a shared display of commitment to national peace.

National Police Day 2026 comes at a time when the Force is increasingly focused on community-oriented policing. The route from the Force Headquarters to the Unity Fountain was chosen to represent the journey toward a more harmonious Nigeria. Under the leadership of IGP Disu, the “Together We Secure” theme serves as a call for active partnership in intelligence sharing and crime prevention.

As part of the ongoing festivities, the Nigeria Police Force is scheduled to host several additional outreach programs throughout the week to further promote transparency and public trust. #Securitynewsalert.com
