Nigerian Troops Repel Attack in Borno, Several Insurgents Arrested

-

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist assault on the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The attack, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, saw insurgents attempt to breach the defensive perimeter of the military installation.

In a swift counteraction led by Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, the troops engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat in disarray. Several insurgents were arrested during the operation, while others fled, abandoning weapons and equipment.

The Defence Headquarters described the incident as evidence of the desperation of terrorist elements who have suffered heavy losses in recent clearance operations. Additional exploitation missions are ongoing to track down fleeing suspects and dismantle their networks.

While the Army confirmed that a few soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, commended the bravery and resilience of the troops. He assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces remain resolute in restoring lasting peace in the North-East.

Authorities urge the public to disregard misinformation circulating on social media and to continue supporting security forces with credible information that can aid ongoing operations.
