EFCC Arraigns  One for Alleged  N20m Cattle Fraud in Gombe

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on May 5, 2026, arraigned one Andefiki Markus before Justice H.H. Kerrng of the Gombe State High Court sitting in Gombe, Gombe State.

Markus was arraigned on two-count charges bordering on obtaining under false pretence by the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.

Count one of the charges reads:  That you Dr Andefiki Markus on or about the 27th day of June 2023 in Gombe, Gombe State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court with intent to defraud did obtain monies the total sum of Twenty  Million Naira ( N20,000,000) through your bank account number 0011125604 domiciled with Access Bank plc from Mr Skeptra Useni baka under the false pretence that the said sum were for investment into cattle fattening at Taraba State for profit in favour of the said Mr Skeptra Useni Baka which you knew to be false thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(c) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act,  No.14 2006.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting the prosecution counsel, Abubakar Aliyu, to ask the court for a trial date and to remand the defendant in the Nigerian Correctional Service, but counsel to the defendant, C.C. Ichecu, informed the court of a pending formal motion for bail.

Justice Kereng,   having listened to both prosecution and defence counsel,  remanded the defendant in EFCC custody and adjourned the case to May 7, 202,  for the hearing of the bail application.
