Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers across ranks in the Nigeria Police Force, in a move aimed at boosting morale and rewarding professional conduct within the service.
The exercise, covering Commands and Formations nationwide, sees 165 Sergeants elevated to Inspector, 73 Corporals elevated to Sergeant, and 17,714 Constables elevated to the rank of Corporal.
Speaking on the development, IGP Disu said timely promotions were central to the Force’s human resource strategy. “The advancement of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current Police leadership to merit, career progression, and institutional development,” he said.
The IGP congratulated the newly promoted officers while stressing that the recognition came with greater expectations. “See your elevation as a call to greater responsibility, professionalism, discipline, and dedication to service,” he charged them, adding that officers must continue to discharge their duties “with integrity, respect for human rights, and commitment to the rule of law.”
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, who announced the promotions, said the Nigeria Police Force “remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting excellence, rewarding hard work, and strengthening institutional capacity in line with global best practices in policing.”
