Troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau under the 25 Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully repelled a terrorist attack on the military formation in Borno State, despite adverse weather conditions and poor visibility caused by heavy rainfall.
According to the military, the insurgents launched the attack at about 3:00 a.m. on June 5, 2026, attempting to exploit the severe weather conditions to breach sections of the base.
However, troops mounted a fierce counter-offensive that thwarted the assault and inflicted casualties on the attackers. The military described the successful defence of the base as a demonstration of the resilience, courage and determination of personnel operating in the North-East theatre.
Despite the successful repulsion of the attack, five soldiers lost their lives during the intense firefight and close-quarter combat. Some military equipment was also damaged during the engagement.
The military paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, describing their sacrifice as a reflection of the highest traditions of service and commitment to the defence of Nigeria.
The operation also recorded the deaths of three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), who fought alongside the troops. Personnel injured during the battle were promptly airlifted by the Air Component Command and are currently receiving medical treatment in stable condition.
Military authorities confirmed that troops remain firmly in control of the FOB and continue to dominate the surrounding area, while exploitation and consolidation operations are ongoing.
Operation HADIN KAI said the failed attack highlights the growing desperation of terrorist groups facing sustained military pressure and significant operational losses across the North-East.
The military further disclosed that additional troops and critical combat enablers have been deployed to strengthen security operations and maintain pressure on insurgent elements in the region. #Securitynewsalert.com
