Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed one militant, arrested eight suspects, and disrupted multiple criminal networks across Zamfara State in operations conducted between June 5 and 6, according to a military statement released Sunday.
The most significant engagement occurred on June 5, when troops on a fighting patrol in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area made contact with terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village. Following a firefight, soldiers killed one militant and recovered seven motorcycles.
The following day brought a series of separate incidents. In Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, troops responded to a terrorist attack on Anguwar Sarkin Musulmi village, engaging the attackers and forcing them to retreat into the bush.
Preliminary findings indicated that the militants had looted residents’ belongings before soldiers arrived. Military officials described the attack as evidence of “growing desperation” among terrorist elements facing sustained pressure on their supply lines.
Also on June 6, terrorists ambushed two civilian vehicles along the Kaura Namoda–Zurmi Road, between Jabanda and Dauran villages in Zurmi Local Government Area. Troops secured the scene and evacuated injured victims for medical treatment. Efforts to track the attackers and rescue any abducted passengers were ongoing as of the statement’s release.
In a separate operation the same day, troops conducting a patrol in Maru Local Government Area arrested eight suspected bandits at Tudun Wada community. Soldiers seized seven motorcycles, communication equipment, mobile phones, power banks, and military-style uniforms. A structure used by the suspects was demolished.
A fifth operation on June 5 resulted in the arrest of a suspect in Shinkafi Local Government Area who was alleged to have received a recently intercepted ammunition shipment. The suspect was said to be in custody and cooperating with investigators.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA called on members of the public to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
