Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have rescued Mrs Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, following her abduction by bandits several weeks ago.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the rescue was achieved after intensified search-and-rescue operations conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA.
The military said sustained offensive operations and pressure mounted on the criminal elements led troops to Tunga Village, where they made contact with the bandits and successfully recovered Mrs Abubakar.
The statement disclosed that during the encounter, the bandits shot Mrs Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing in the face of the advancing troops.
She was immediately evacuated to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively, the military said.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria assured that it remains committed to ensuring her full recovery and is providing the necessary support to her family during the period.
The military also pledged to continue operations aimed at tracking down and neutralising the perpetrators while intensifying efforts to rid affected communities of terrorist and criminal elements in Katsina State and across the country.
Major General Rabe Abubakar, who served as Director of Defence Information, was reportedly abducted alongside his wife before his death. #Securitynewsalert.com
