Oyo Police Recover Additional Firearms, Ammunition, Vehicles Linked to Suspected Criminal Syndicate

-

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the recovery of additional firearms, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, and other exhibits following ongoing investigations into the arrest of suspected armed robbery kingpin Surajudeen Babatunde Adio, popularly known as “Surii Ilupeju,” and four other suspects.

The latest recoveries were made during follow-up operations conducted by police operatives after the suspects’ arrest, which was announced by the Command on June 13, 2026.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, sustained intelligence gathering and further interrogation of the suspects led to the discovery and seizure of more weapons and other items believed to be connected to criminal activities.

Among the additional firearms recovered were a pump-action gun, a single-barrel gun, a single-barrel cut-to-size gun, two single-barrel locally made pistols, and a double-barrel locally made pistol. Police also recovered 23 live cartridges and eight rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

The Command further disclosed that several vehicles suspected to be linked to the ongoing investigation were intercepted and recovered. The vehicles include a Mazda bus with registration number FFE 08 XB, a Hummer bus with registration number MUS 246 CK, a BAW bus bearing registration number KTU 688 YG, and multiple Toyota buses, including those with registration numbers BDG 117 YK and BRS 842 TW.

Other recovered vehicles include two Toyota Sienna vehicles with registration numbers LSD 68 CJ and BDG 986 SA, a Ford Sharon with registration number FKJ 39 EW, a Toyota Previa, and a Nissan Cabstar.

In addition, police recovered a Suzuki Inazuma power bike, a blue Honda motorcycle scrap, a red Honda motorcycle scrap, a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle scrap, and large quantities of Accord Party-branded hats, shirts, and face caps.

The Command stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the ownership of the recovered items and establish their possible links to reported criminal activities within and outside Oyo State. Efforts are also being intensified to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to be connected to the suspected syndicate.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at combating armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state.

He urged members of the public to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information, assuring residents that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.

The police also encouraged residents to make use of the Oyo State Call Response Centre’s toll-free number, 615, or contact the Command’s control room through 08081768614 and 07055495413 in emergencies.

The additional recoveries mark a significant development in the investigation as authorities continue efforts to dismantle the suspected criminal network and recover more exhibits linked to its activities.
