Nigerians React As Davido Appeals to Donald Trump Over Osun Election, Alleging Violence

-

Nigerian music star Davido has stirred controversy after publicly calling on U.S. President Donald Trump to pay attention to the political situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as the state approaches its election.

In an appeal shared on his social media, Davido expressed concern over rising tension, possible violence, and intimidation that could disrupt the democratic process.

He urged the international community to ensure that voters are protected and that the election remains free and fair.

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” Davido wrote, tagging Trump directly in his appeal.

The post quickly drew widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians weighing in on the appropriateness of Davido’s call.

Sophia (@Dolapo2kyk) questioned the ruling party’s actions, writing, “But what’s wrong with APC gan gan? Why can’t they just allow the man to finish the eight years? I pray it doesn’t get any worse than it already has, cos this one they’re already shooting around. Please y’all stay safe.”

Others criticised Davido’s approach. Chimez Brightosky (@CBrightosk23600) accused him of hypocrisy, pointing out that his uncle is the governor of Osun State: “He cannot organise a free and fair election and protect its citizens, and you’re here calling President Trump. Shame on you and your Uncle.”

Muhd Yahya Bamalli (@bmjvermerlleey) condemned the appeal outright, arguing that Nigeria’s sovereignty must be respected: “Why should you be calling on a foreign president to interfere in Nigeria’s internal democratic process? Nigeria is a sovereign nation, and our elections should be handled by Nigerians and our constitutional institutions.”

Other commentators echoed similar sentiments. Mr Xperience (@Xperience_Snr) noted that Davido should have directed his concerns to Nigeria’s own president, Bola Tinubu, instead of Trump: “President Donald Trump cannot do anything for the people of Osun state. The United States have their own problems… Why are you not calling on Tinubu? He’s your president.”

Some responses were more mocking in tone. Osas (@Myuseonlyy) dismissed Davido’s move as immature: “Bro u are almost 40 and still behaving like a 15-year-old…. What made you think tagging Donald Trump in your tweet would make him pay attention to you or actually solve your problem?”

Lord Zeus (@LordZeus_Usulor) joked about the idea of U.S. military involvement: “For your mind, Trump will deploy the USA army to look over Osun Election.”

Babatunde Johnson (@btunddej) took satire further, parodying Davido’s appeal by suggesting that the U.S. deploy “the 6th Fleet, NASA, the FBI, the CIA, and maybe the Avengers” to Osun State, while ridiculing Davido’s influence and his uncle’s governance.

Meanwhile, GBEMISOLA CFC (@QUEENOFDBLUES1) argued that Davido’s concern should extend beyond Osun: “Please, this call should be for the whole nation and not just for Osun State. You’re shouting now because your Uncle is affected and you want something done.”

Zaram (@BlueSideOtaku) reminded Davido that foreign leaders have no right to interfere in Nigeria’s internal politics: “Trump is not the person to be calling… they don’t really have a right to interfere with the politics of a sovereign nation, talk less of a state in that nation.”
