AIG Jimoh Assures Lagos, Ogun Residents of Improved Security, Receives Excellence Award

-

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, AIG Olorundare Jimoh, has assured residents of Lagos and Ogun states of improved security and urged them to sustain their trust and cooperation with the police.

Jimoh gave the assurance in Lagos when the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Integrity Youth Alliance, Abuja, Kehinde Adewole, visited the Zonal headquarters in Onikan to present him with the Outstanding Excellence in Security Leadership Award 2026.

Adewole explained that the award recognised Jimoh’s leadership, professionalism, and commitment to accountability-oriented policing. He highlighted the recovery of more than 115 stolen vehicles, the prosecution of suspected cult members, and zero-incident records during major festive celebrations under Jimoh’s watch as Lagos Police Commissioner and now AIG. He added that the deployment of 250 personnel and 50 tactical vehicles to strategic locations, along with rapid crime-response measures, contributed to the honour.

Responding, Jimoh described the award as a collective achievement of officers and men of the command. “This award is a special appreciation for the integrity and hard work of our officers. It is a recognition of what we have been doing, but we must not allow the award to get into our heads. Rather, it should support and encourage us to do more for the people we are serving,” he said.

He noted that his prior experience as Commissioner of Police in Lagos gave him a deep understanding of the security challenges facing Lagos and Ogun, which he described as critical to Nigeria’s economic development. He pledged to strengthen security along major corridors linking the two states through intelligence-led strategies.

Jimoh commended residents for cooperating with security agencies and providing information that had helped prevent and detect crime. He urged them to continue offering constructive criticism where necessary. “Wherever you notice any misconduct or activities of the police that you are not satisfied with, our doors are widely open for complaints to be made and properly addressed,” he said, advising that petitions against officers, including senior officers, should be submitted through appropriate channels.

He also acknowledged the initiatives introduced by Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to strengthen public partnership, enhance training, and boost confidence in the force, promising that Zone 2 would continue to engage stakeholders through community policing.

Rights activist Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, also praised Jimoh, describing him as deserving of the award. He attributed the relative peace in Lagos to teamwork, intelligence-led policing, and community engagement. “The police are a reflection of society,” Awosanya said, noting that the force has internal accountability mechanisms to address misconduct regardless of an officer’s rank.
