The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, in collaboration with the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Lagos Zonal Office, held a lecture on pension matters, financial intelligence, and retirement planning for its management staff, area commanders, divisional officers, and tactical commanders on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Addressing the large audience, Lagos State Commandant, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, fnarc, emphasised the importance of financial discipline and long-term planning.
“A retirement plan is a financial strategy that helps personnel to save, invest, and build a secure fund to support their lifestyles after they stop working actively in the service,” he explained.
He cautioned officers against short-term indulgence, urging them instead to delay gratification for a sustainable future. “Do not eat your future today. Plan wisely so you can live better after retirement,” he charged.
Keshinro further directed the Command’s Pension Unit to design a sensitisation schedule to reach all personnel through their area commands.
Representing PenCom, Mrs Sarah Joseph, Team Lead of the Lagos Zonal Office, delivered a detailed lecture on the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
“The CPS is a mandatory system where employees and employers make monthly deposits into a Retirement Savings Account (RSA), overseen by the National Pension Commission,” she said.
She also addressed officers’ concerns on remittance, data capturing, gratuity, group life assurance, annuity for life, and pension reforms.
The event was attended by representatives of several Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), including Leadway, Access Arm, Parthian, Stanbic, and Trust Fund Pensions. Officers left the session with what organisers described as “deep and detailed knowledge” on managing finances intelligently and preparing for retirement without fear or panic.
Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, SC Oluwaseun Abolurin, confirmed the event’s success, noting that it was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen financial literacy among NSCDC personnel.
