Troops of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kaura Namoda have arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a night patrol in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The successful early morning operation took place at approximately 01:50 AM on Monday, August 25, 2026, as part of sustained military efforts to clear criminal elements from the region.

According to an official statement issued by Captain Yusuf Mohammed, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for 1 Brigade, the arrested suspects were identified as 25-year-old Jabiru Hassan and 23-year-old Umaru Bello, both hailing from Ilela Village in Maradun Local Government Area.

Military forces recovered an array of weapons, tactical gear, and communication equipment during the operation, including:

Weapons & Ammunition: 1 AK-47 rifle, 1 locally fabricated Dane gun, 2 rifle magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and 18 Dane gun cartridges.

Communications & Electronics: 2 Baofeng radio sets, 1 mobile phone, and 2 MP3 players.

Tactical Gear & Personal Effects: 1 camouflage vest, 2 jungle hats, 1 motorcycle, 1 handbag, and ₦44,500 in cash.

“Preliminary examination of the suspects’ mobile phone revealed photographs and video materials considered potentially incriminating and of intelligence value,” Capt. Mohammed stated. “The contents are currently being subjected to further verification and exploitation by the appropriate authorities to establish their relevance and possible links to terrorist activities within the area.”

Commending the soldiers for their vigilance and courage, the Acting Commander of 1 Brigade, Colonel J. Umaru, urged the troops to maintain their aggressive operational tempo.

“Sustain the tempo of offensive operations, remain resolute, and continue to deny terrorists and other criminal elements the freedom to operate within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility,” Col. Umaru charged the personnel, reaffirming the military’s ongoing commitment to restoring lasting peace and security across Zamfara State.
