Nigerian Guild of Editors Mourns Death of The Eagleonline Publisher, Dotun Oladipo

-

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has announced, with deep sorrow, the passing of Dr. Samson Dotun Oladipo, a veteran journalist, former newspaper editor, and publisher of Eagles Online, describing him as “a gentleman and great journalist” whose exit has left the media community in mourning.

In a statement issued by the Guild’s General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, the NGE said it received the news of Dr. Oladipo’s death “with profound sadness,” noting his lasting impact on both traditional and digital journalism in Nigeria.

According to the statement, Dr. Oladipo was “deeply committed to the growth and development of the Nigerian media and the digital landscape” during his time as publisher of the online news platform Eagles Online.

The Guild described him as a dedicated member whose involvement “added impetus to the growth of the elite media professional body,” adding that his membership “reflected his strong belief in professional solidarity and the importance of promoting ethical, credible and responsible journalism.”

Beyond his professional titles, the NGE remembered Dr. Oladipo as “not merely a media practitioner but also a respected colleague, mentor and contributor to the continuing evolution of the Nigerian media landscape.”

Reflecting on his career, which spanned several decades, the statement noted that Dr. Oladipo “distinguished himself through professionalism, courage, intellectual depth and an unwavering commitment to the principles of journalism and nation building,” adding that his contributions to the industry “left an indelible mark.”

The Guild called his death “a great loss to his family, colleagues, the journalism profession and the wider media community,” while emphasising that he leaves behind “a legacy of hard work, professional excellence, courage and service that will continue to inspire those who knew and worked with him.”

Extending condolences to Dr. Oladipo’s family, colleagues, friends, and associates, the NGE said: “At this difficult moment, our thoughts and prayers are with his family. We pray that God will grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss as well as grant the departed journalist eternal rest.”

The statement, released by the Nigerian Guild of Editors, was reported by NTA Network.
