(COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu was honoured with the Distinguished Personality Award at the National Defence College (NDC) Course 34 Graduation Dinner and Awards Night in Abuja.
The award recognised his outstanding support for defence research and innovation, particularly in advancing military operations and capability development.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Commandant of the NDC praised the COAS’ vision: “Lieutenant General Shaibu has consistently championed the integration of research and innovation into military operations. His leadership has strengthened the Nigerian Army’s ability t o respond to evolving security challenges.”
The event, attended by Service Chiefs, senior military officers, members of the Federal Executive Council, and other national security stakeholders, also celebrated the successful completion of Course 34. It underscored the vital role of professional military education, research, and inter-service cooperation in safeguarding Nigeria’s national interests.
In his acceptance remarks, General Shaibu reaffirmed his commitment to building a resilient force:
“This recognition is not just about me, but about the collective effort of our officers, researchers, and partners. Together, we are shaping a professional, adaptable, and combat-ready Nigerian Army.”
The award further highlights his drive to inspire greater collaboration between operational forces and defence research institutions in addressing contemporary security challenges.
