FG Sends Condolences to China Over Deadly Floods, Landslides

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sympathy to China following the devastating floods and landslides that struck the China-Nepal border on August 26, 2026.

In a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, the government noted that the disaster claimed many lives and injured hundreds. It caused massive destruction in Gyirong County, Tibet.

The Nigerian Government also commiserated with the families of Chinese and Nepali victims, as well as those of foreign nationals from Australia, India, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and the United States who were affected by the tragedy.

Nigeria commended President Xi Jinping and Chinese rescue teams for their swift response and ongoing humanitarian efforts in the affected region.

The Federal Government said it stands in solidarity with China at this difficult time, praying for the repose of the souls of the dead and for comfort for the injured and displaced as recovery efforts continue.
