Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded fresh successes in Kaduna and Katsina states, arresting suspected terrorist collaborators, intercepting weapons and ammunition, and destroying terrorist enclaves in operations carried out on August 27 and 28, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 1 acted on intelligence on August 27 that led to the arrest of a suspected terrorist collaborator in Kaduna State. The suspect was found with two locally made guns and 13 rounds of ammunition hidden in a bag.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been assigned to deliver the weapons to another individual. Acting swiftly on this information, troops carried out a follow-up operation that led to the arrest of two more suspects linked to the movement of the arms. All three suspects, along with the recovered weapons and other items, are currently being investigated.
In a separate operation on August 28, troops of Sector 2, working alongside other security agencies, launched a clearance operation targeting terrorist enclaves around Maharba and Karaduwa in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. The troops successfully destroyed the enclaves and other structures the terrorists had been using to support their activities.
Among the sites cleared was an enclave linked to a notorious terrorist leader identified as Kachalla Muhammadu Filani, whose group has been terrorising residents of Matazu and Musawa local government areas. The statement said the terrorist leader narrowly escaped as troops closed in on the location.
Further searches of the area led to the recovery of an RPG-7 tube, a motorcycle, mobile phones and other items. Troops subsequently carried out fighting patrols within the area to consolidate their gains and prevent the terrorists from regrouping.
The Joint Task Force said the latest operations reflect its sustained commitment to dismantling terrorist networks, disrupting the movement of weapons and other logistics, and denying terrorists safe havens across the Joint Operations Area.
“The Joint Task Force remains resolute in taking the fight to the terrorists through coordinated and intelligence-driven operations aimed at degrading their capabilities and restoring lasting peace and security to affected communities,” the statement added.
