The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reiterated its commitment to addressing concerns over unintended airstrikes affecting civilians during military operations.
The assurance was given by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, during a meeting with a delegation from Amnesty International Nigeria at the Civil-Military Branch of NAF Headquarters.
Gabkwet explained that the engagement was aimed at clarifying observations raised by Amnesty International regarding airstrikes between December 25, 2024, and 2026. He emphasised that transparency remains the guiding principle of the Air Force’s operations, noting that the service is prepared to take responsibility where necessary.
He further highlighted that the Civilian Harm Assessment and Investigation Team is always on standby to conduct thorough investigations whenever such incidents occur. According to him, the team ensures that findings are properly documented and recommendations implemented to prevent recurrence.
The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force and global human rights organisations in fostering accountability and strengthening civil-military relations.
