The Lagos State Police Command says September was a month of breakthroughs in its fight against crime, with dozens of arrests, weapons seized, and stolen property recovered across the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, addressing journalists today, 28th September 2026, at the Police Headquarters, Ikeja, described the achievements as a clear signal that Lagos is becoming increasingly hostile to criminal networks.
“We remain steadfast in our resolve to make Lagos unsafe for criminal elements. These breakthroughs are a testament to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and the cooperation of the public,” he said.
The Command reported the arrest of 32 suspects and the recovery of 43 vehicles, ₦2.5 million cash, firearms including five pump-action guns and five locally made pistols, 20 live cartridges, and assorted stolen household goods.
The month was not without tragedy. On September 26, Sergeant Johnson Okediji lost his life during a stop-and-search operation in Egbeda after being dragged by a fleeing vehicle. The suspect, Olumide Olusola, 21, was arrested. CP Fatai vowed that the Command would continue to protect its personnel while holding accountable anyone who undermines the standards expected of a police officer.
Other notable successes included the arrest of armed robbery suspects in Abule Egba and Mushin, the dismantling of cultist networks in Badagry and Ikorodu, and the interception of a 15-year-old courier transporting concealed firearms inside a loaf of bread. Enforcement operations also led to the impounding of more than 41 vehicles for covered number plates and lack of registration.
CP Fatai praised the dedication of officers and the vigilance of Lagosians. “Security is a shared responsibility. We appreciate members of the public for their timely cooperation, which has been crucial to these successes,” he said.
