The Delta State Police Command has taken four additional suspects into custody, including the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, in its investigation into the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education.
The development brings the number of people now held in connection with the case to five, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
The Command has also begun a manhunt for two key suspects whose presence is required to advance the investigation. They are Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Mr Clement Apia, driver to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, appealed to the two suspects to surrender themselves.
“The Commissioner of Police urges the two suspects, wherever they may be, to make themselves available to the Police without further delay,” SP Edafe said in the statement.
CP Erale also assured the public that the investigation would be handled with integrity. According to the statement, he “reiterates that the investigation will be pursued thoroughly, impartially and professionally.”
The police chief assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that due process would be followed. “Anyone found culpable will be brought to justice in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
The Command also extended its condolences to the bereaved family.
