The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction of a 38-year-old man, Nathaniel Peter, at Layeri Village, near Ikoyi-Ile, in Oyo State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, 27 September 2026.
According to the statement, a resident of the community reported the incident to the police at about 5:50 p.m. on 24 September.
The resident said armed men had invaded a family compound in the area at about 4:20 a.m. the same day. Police operatives immediately moved to the scene to carry out a preliminary assessment and begin investigations.
Preliminary findings showed that three of the gunmen forced their way into Peter’s room and abducted him. They reportedly took away a Hajue motorcycle and the victim’s mobile phone before escaping through the National Reserve Forest.
As part of ongoing investigations, police operatives arrested two suspects, identified as Muhammadu Abubakar, an adult male, and Jayun Danali, 17.
Both are currently assisting police with information relevant to the case. The police said the arrests have produced useful leads toward identifying and apprehending other members of the gang.
The Command, working with other security agencies, has intensified coordinated operations to secure the safe rescue of the victim and to arrest the fleeing members of the criminal gang.
The Command reassured residents, particularly those in the affected communities, of its commitment to their safety. It urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to promptly provide credible information to the police.
