President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of two military battalions in Iseyin and Kishi towns in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State as part of efforts to strengthen security in the region.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General A.B. Mahmuda, disclosed this on Independence Day during a courtesy visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, Ikú Bàbá Yèyé.
Mahmuda said the proposed battalions would be in Iseyin and Kishi, two strategic communities in the Oke-Ogun axis of the state.
According to him, the newly established Military Brigade and Garrison in Oyo town will control and supervise the two battalions.
The development is expected to strengthen the military’s presence in Oke-Ogun and improve its capacity to respond to security threats across the area.
The establishment of the battalions also comes against the backdrop of growing security concerns in parts of the region, where communities have continued to demand stronger security measures and quicker responses to emerging threats.
The new military formation in Oyo town is expected to provide the command structure for coordinating operations involving the two battalions and other security formations within the area.
The announcement further signals the Federal Government’s move to expand military infrastructure and deployment in strategic locations as part of broader efforts to enhance national security.
Mahmuda’s disclosure was made during his visit to the Alaafin’s palace, where he paid homage to the monarch and discussed security matters concerning Oyo State and its surrounding areas.
