The Ogun State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with academic institutions, describing the education of responsible and self-reliant youths as a strategic investment in crime prevention and public safety.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, stated this on Tuesday while receiving the 7th Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Abeokuta, Dr Joseph Bankole Filani, and members of his management team during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
Ojajuni stressed the importance of collaboration between security agencies and educational institutions in promoting responsible citizenship, preventing crime and maintaining a safe learning environment.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the commissioner commended Filani and his management team for their contributions to academic excellence and youth development.
He noted that educating and nurturing law-abiding, responsible and self-reliant young people remained a critical strategy for preventing crime and achieving sustainable public safety.
The police commissioner also emphasised the role of educators in shaping the values, attitudes and conduct of young people, adding that the Command had sustained its engagement with the College through public enlightenment and sensitisation programmes.
He said the initiatives were coordinated by the Police Public Relations Department and the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to deepen its partnership with the institution to improve campus security, strengthen security awareness among students and ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
He also encouraged the College’s management to sustain its commitment to educational excellence and responsible youth development.
Earlier, Filani highlighted the College’s historic position as the first tertiary institution established in Ogun State and its transition into a degree-awarding institution.
He explained that the institution remained committed to entrepreneurial development and equipping students with practical skills to promote self-reliance.
The provost commended the police commissioner for the prevailing peace and security in the state and pledged the College’s continued support and cooperation with the Command.
The visit, attended by members of the police Command’s management team, underscored the importance of partnerships between security agencies and educational institutions in advancing community policing, crime prevention, educational development and public safety across Ogun State.
